The St. John Ambulance Association (also
known as The Training Branch), was established in Malta in 1882. It was the first branch of St. John Ambulance to be formed
outside of the United Kingdom. Its aim is to teach First Aid to the general public and members of St. John Ambulance. In Malta
we have been teaching First Aid to the public for over 130 years.
The
Training Association in Malta is run by the Director of Training,
HE
Comm. Dr. Jaime H. Cremona. The Hon. Secretary is Franco J. Piccinino, the Hon. Deputy Secretary is Ms Victoria Vincenti and
Mr. Paul Spiteri is the Senior Training Development Adviser. There are also over fourty highly experienced Trainers who form
part of this elite Branch.
Over the past few years the number of
courses and certificates issued has increased each year, with a new record being set every year.
Trainers
are closely monitored. Training Development Advisors (TDAs)ensure that all Trainers are lecturing up to standard and at least
twice yearly a County Trainer Verifier comes to Malta from the U.K., to assist and update our TDAs and Trainers in any changes
in protocol which have occurred.
Courses
are held at our Headquarters in Valletta and also on-site at various companies and organizations. Courses conducted by St.
John Ambulance - Malta are recognised and approved by the Occupational Health & Safety Authority.
First
Aid courses are also held at Schools, Scouts/Guides and other youth organizations for children age between 9 and 13 years.
Recently these courses are also being conducted at our Training Centre in Valletta.
